The best company I have ever been employed at.
RISK ENGINEERING CONSULTANT (Former Employee), Schaumburg, IL –
The training, the people, management and ballance of life was superb. The only down fall was job security as I was effected by an emormous layoff that took place. They have just recently just experienced a 2nd wave of Layoffs.

Zurich was a great experience.
Underwriting Quality Specialist (Former Employee), Overland Park, KS –
I was responsible for organizing, scheduling, and managing, the underwriting audit process for approximately 24 audits per year. The reviews were predominantly on agent partners who had been given authority to write business on Zurich's behalf. This entailed determining the number of files to be reviewed, questions to be asked, staffing for the review, – more...  act as subject matter expert for the electronic web based tool used to gather data from the files, organize daily review of findings, assemble audit data, present findings, create recommendations and follow up on recommendation compliance. Reviews addressed Information gather, Compliance, underwriting integrity, authority, pricing, rating.

The hardest part of the role was balancing the production view of governance and the controllership view of underwriting quality. This role for the most part is change implementation and that was the most rewarding part: bringing change to underwriting processes that should produce compliant profitability. – less

Professional atmosphere
Rater III (Former Employee), Overland Park, KS –
Pros: flexibility, location, wages and benefits
This job allowed me to work with numbers, which I usually shy away from. It allowed me the opportunity to experience the "other" side of the claims process, which opened the door to my underwriting opportunity. I was able to decide which role I was most comfortable in, underwriting or claims management. Zurich provided a base for growth and a good professional – more...  atmosphere. – less

Productive and fun place to work.
Intern - Personal Finance Service Department (Former Employee), Hong Kong, HKSAR –
I worked as a student intern in the personal insurance department for Zurich Insurance Ltd. Hong Kong, where I led a team to participate in equity and debt capital markets negotiations including foreign issues proactively. The key performance indicator in the insurance company would be the number of valuable insurance policies sold to the customers – more...  at their needs. Therefore, in order to do that, I have performed profitability analysis of 38 Zurich Insurance stocks and bonds thoroughly to prioritize the importance of each security to meet the risk and return requirements from the clients.

More importantly, through the research on customer preferences and buying trends for insurance policies, I have developed the practical ability to appraise risks and adapted portfolios according to the market requirements. Specifically, I have assisted clients with wealth management and increased the tailor-made portfolio revenue by 4% for the first quarter through interactive communications. – less

You get out of it what you put into it!
Current Employee in Staff Legal Department (Current Employee), Dallas, Texas –
Pros: good pay, they will stay off your back if you do your job
Cons: plenty of work to do
Zurich North America is a world-class insurer, which pays higher than average salaries. You can focus on moving up the corporate ladder, or you can focus on just doing your job, staying where you are and enjoying your family or other social life. I have been with Zurich for a couple of years, and I tend to focus on my family. I leave when it is time – more...  to get off, and I show up and work when the morning comes. Certainly I will never rise to the top of upper management, but they allow the employee to pick his/her own path. Simply put, I could be President of Zurich (or President of the United States), but I just don't want to pay the price it would take on my family. And, my experience has been, that Zurich is fine with those of us who let the sprinters take the lead! – less

Product Development Consultant (Former Employee), Schaumburg, IL –
Pros: good benefits, job security
Cons: constant changes in management, a bad manager will make you leave
This is a good company to work for, I would have not left it except I chose the wrong position and wrong Manager.
If you select the wrong manager, you will find it difficult to move within the organization and you'll have to leave.

STAY AWAY FROM ZURICH
Manager (Former Employee), Texas –
Pros: good salary
Cons: expensive benefits, heavy work load, minimal support and unrealistic expectations
They lure you with a salary that is better than average, the benefit package is too expensive. They rave about profits yet cut staff regularly and increase the cost of benefits. You can expect to work a minimum of 60 hours a week and never feel like you are accomplishing anything because the volume of work is overwhelming

Unprofessional Local Management Staff
Former Clams rep (Former Employee), Dallas, Texas –
The Dallas Office has a very high turn over. The managers and AVP that they had in a place caused the office to go down. They got rid of the AVP and some of the managers but a few of the bad apples remain in place. Be prepared to work your desk along with the desk of the employee that they will fire or eventullay cause to resign.

Auto department is highly under-staffed for volume
APD Manager (Former Employee), Atlanta, GA –
Pros: salary was good for the market
Cons: benefits are expensive, upper mgmt out of touch with front line employees
Trainees are the hardest hit and are NOT allowed to work 1 minute of overtime even if they receive a claim at 4:30pm.
Salary was very good but the performance management system works against employees. Dont go to HR to make any inquiries as it will come back to haunt you. The company claims to have an "ope door" policy for issues but all they will do – more...  is "open the door" and push you out. I was let go over the phone for making a highly documented (on my end) HR complaint on my direct manager for lack of supports after receiving a low end of year evaluation but my numbers showed high meets. My manager stated even if you meet or exceeded all objectives or year end goals but if the Upper Mgmt feels your soft skills do not meet Zurich standards you can receive a "DOES NOT MEET" overall rating ??????? – less

Marketing Support Specialist (Former Employee), Baltimore, MD –
Pros: comfortable, business casual attire and environment.
Working for Zurich North America was a wonderful experience! I left in search of a job which was more in line with my degree, and I certainly regret the decision. I would recommend Zurich North America to any individual searching for employment.
