Draining and Demorolising
Customer Service (Current Employee), Johannesburg –
Pros: food and certain clothes are cheaper
Cons: long hours, low pay, no over-time on sundays
Understandably retail has hardly to No weekends, but maybe they could work on accomodating every second weekend. The amount of work ratio to pay ratio is not very good. Managers are reasonable and benefits are good. You have plenty of security and room for growth. But the growth takes a long time and too many channels and procedures that it hardly seems – more...  like you growing. So yes it has all that you need. But the salary is very poor. It is an ok starting job for a student on their own starting out but not a long term job. – less

BUSY AND FRIENDLY STORES
SALES ASSISTANT (Former Employee), TYNE AND WEAR –
Pros: staff discount/ job for life
Cons: store only closed easter sunday and christmas day, long long hours around the christmas period.
Woolworths was at the heart of the town and well established.
The store was always busy with customers of all ages. There was always a friendly atomosphere as the staff where easily approachable and very helpful. The most enjoyable part of the job was full filling customer requests in return they left the store happy.
The hardest part of the job was – more...  trying to protect stock from shoplifters.
All staff got along with each other and worked well in teams and unsupervised.
Management where always at hand and friendly and approachable. – less

Good workplace to meet people and communication
Front Desk Supervisor/operater. (Current Employee), Beerwah, Qld 4519 –
Pros: meet people re staffs and customers
Cons: i dont mind the long hours as i am a workaholic, the cons part of this job is customers stealing, loss of stocks due to theft
My day at work is different every day. It never the same hence why I like the challenge.

I first do Perishable to do the 'out of date' code, ensure the rotation date is done, the date is in the RF gun. Facing. Unpacking and stocking up shelf..in the meantime, I continue to assist Customer's enquiries. And I continue to assist on check out when called.

On – more...  a split shift, I supervised the Front desk late afternoon to night. Sometime I do operator.

Other split shift is Ticket on a Tuesday night.

I get along very well with all co-workers in the four years I have been in Woolworths...but When I do have problems hence my hearing disability, I quickly resolved the problem by sorting it out with the person.

This is the same with Customers, I am very fortunately that Customers know me well enough now to communicate effectively with me.

The hardest part of the job is when I cannot assist a customer with their enquiries, eg: not in stock, discontinue, deleted line, out of stock. I tried my hardest and feel sad that we, worthworth had to cut down on stocks to make way for new brands and/or it not selling, It frustuated the customers.

The most enjoyable part of the job is when Customers come in and say your name and a lovely Hello. I enjoy my work and look forward to coming into work. – less

Good company, would definatly work for them again.
Check-out Operator (Former Employee), Sydney, NSW –
Pros: free coffee, tea. good wage.
Cons: communication misdirection.
This company is easy to work for, they strive to settle you into your job as much as they can. They have high standards of dress and conduct. The managers perhaps do not communicate as well as they could.

Good Place to work, hoping to be re-employed in the near future
Nightfill (Former Employee), Mount Gambier –
I enjoyed working at Woolworths for the short time I was there, however balancing young children and night work at the time proved to be a little difficult, so I gave it up for daytime school hours. I am now applying for a job within the Woolworths Group hoping to be a succesful candidate at our new Market Place opening later this year, as my first – more...  preference would be to be a part of the Masters Team as I have a Diploma Of Interior Design and have been working in the Home Improvement industry for many years. – less

Company with good values
Planner (Current Employee), Cape Town –
Pros: discounts in stores
Good company to work for. Our customers and our people expect us to take a lead on issues such as this. Our ‘Good business journey’ is, therefore, the result of a comprehensive and systematic review of the way Woolworths addresses the issue of sustainable growth within the context of the changing social and environmental needs of South Africa. It is – more...  a five year plan, changing the way we do business, and incorporating a series of challenging targets and commitments, centered on four key priorities: accelerating transformation, driving social development, enhancing our environmental focus, and addressing climate change – less
