Hard place to work
Consultant (Former Employee), Lancaster, PA –
Pros: win prizes
Cons: too many call requirements
With any customer service job, the customers are sometimes the hardest part of this job. Never know if you have a pleasant experience or just outright mad customer. Verizon puts a lot on a customer service rep. Too many requirements of what needs to be offered on a phone call and doesn't matter if the person on the other hand can afford it or not. That – more...  said, the compensation is above average in the industry, since the reps are union, so you can assure that there is job protection. On a daily basis there are sales contest going on, so there is always a change to win either small or big ticket items and if you are on the top, they reward you with a trip where Verizon goes all out. – less

Technician (Former Employee), Laurelton, NY –
Pros: great educational opportunities, great salary, exceptionally great products and services.

Great company to work for but some employees in the company tend to create hardship for others with identity theft and when this gets reported to management, it is treated as standard company practice and the plaintiff gets treated as an outcast.

Big company
Sr. Project Manager (Current Employee), Hilliard, OH 43026 –
Pros: flexible work schedule
Cons: extensive outsourcing, long hours, no company loyalty to employees
Verizon is too big a company to work efficiently and the majority of the work is now being outsourced overseas. It is very difficult to work with folks that are overseas. The majority of the folks in my division that have not been RIF'd handle government projects that can not be outsourced.
