Manager II (Former Employee), McKinney, TX – May 15, 2012
Pros: salary, benefits, office locations
Cons: high stress, long hours, expensive benefits
Awesome company to work for, I'd go back in a heartbeat! Salary for all is within market for the position, benefits are great but expensive, culture is comfortable, management is knowledgeable. Work/life balance is almost non-existant. Too few people for the work required and very long hours are often necessary to accomplish. High stress environment – more... but rewarding if you can handle it. Job security is sketchy right now due, in part, to the lack of defense spending. – less
Software Quality Engineer II (Former Employee), Marlborough, MA – May 14, 2012
Pros: benefit, vacation, advancement
Cons: old corporate culture
Typical work day consist of meetings, reviewing documents and codes. It's a lot of fun if making big ticket software is your thing. Great benefits and lots of opportunity to move around the company.
Cons: long hours, a commitment of 5 months away from home.
For the most part most days were different with a large variety of tasks. I never knew from day to day what to expect as far as work assignments which kept the job interesting. My managers and co-workers were enjoyable to work with and were eager to help each other out.
production associate senior. (Former Employee), dallas,tx – May 8, 2012
Pros: cafeteria, sign on bonus, 401k, perks with getting things with the company badge.
Cons: none.
great job, there isnt many that can come up to the level of this one. so much knowledge in the people that you worked with, if you forgot something they would help everyone was a team player.
Contract Purchasing Specialist/Buyer (Former Employee), Plano, TX – May 7, 2012
Pros: great people and company to work for
Cons: time bases on projects worked on, not challenger
Placing buys from MRP system. Management is very helpful. Hardest part of the job would be the repetition of steps for one order. Most enjoyable part would be that you worked on Aerospace projects.
Good compensation, and benefits, but poor work / life balance
Advanced Systems - Business Management (Current Employee), El Segundo, CA – May 4, 2012
Pros: 9/80 when the day could be taken off
Cons: long work days 12 - 14 hrs
Most people start work at 7:00 and work 10 to 14 hour days. There is a 9/80 schedule but, Friday work is still expected. Raytheon has a lot of finance systems and I learned a lot of them. Weekly Financial Planning, Long Range Planning, Cash Flow, Invoicing and Pricing are some. Management was challenging, there was not a lot of input accepted and direction – more... was more of the style. Co-worker and program management were great and all worked as a team. The hardest part of the job was trying to satisfy a strict finance management interpretation of the policies and working the the programs to help the succeed with their programs. The co-worker and program management people were great and a pleasure to work with. – less

Project Specialist (Former Employee), Centennial, CO – May 2, 2012
Pros: flexibility
Cons: deployment
The typical week involves making new schedules, updating existing schedules, and labor review. The workers at both Raytheon and the NSF were all outstanding.
Assembler/Trainer (Former Employee), Tucson, AZ – May 1, 2012
Pros: some free lunch, getting gift cards, safety tokens

Systems Engineer (Current Employee), El Segundo, CA – May 1, 2012
Pros: possibility for high pay
Cons: cronyism, ethics frowned upon, no technical growth
This part of Raytheon used to be Hughes. Raytheon bought them and now it has the usual corporate atmosphere (do whatever it takes to get a dollar; you can always do some ethics training to repent later). The amount of bias that is shown publicly is amazing. From promotions to job growth, the old adage about who you know is alive and well. The older – more... employees from Hughes are very technical. The newer crop is more concerned with the new Lexus payments and golf schedules, rather than hardening their code or hardware. Raytheon SAS is where engineers go to die. The truth hurts, but the El Segundo site needs a major overhaul. A typical day at work (provided you don't have to go beg programs for work) will involve trying to figure out why someone wrote code a certain way, as documentation is evil. Once you figure it out and make any changes, you'll probably find that those changes were already made by a few people already, years ago. Management...go to lunch with them and you're assured of getting easy promotions or awards (usually both). Stay in during lunch to get something correct and kiss any job growth goodbye. Coworkers are a mixed bag. People fall into a few categories. There are those that are close to retiring (usually technical types), those that see engineering as a way to nice things, and those that want to do good work, but aren't willing to inflate their skill levels to get onto the newer programs. There aren't any enjoyable parts of any jobs here, unless you're a manager, then you pretty much can do as you will, until something goes wrong. When that happens, you don't have to worry about responsibilities and all that stuff. The company will just do a "reorganization" of the staff and move you to another area. The lowest person left on that failed program can take the hit. This place is horrid (over 7 years here, so far) and the only reason it's still there is because people are too used to the fat salaries. – less
Work with lots of interesting technology rasises are sub par
Senior Multi-Disciplined Engineer I (Current Employee), Tucson, AZ – April 30, 2012
Can be a fun place to work depending on the program you are placed on. Not much compensation when you exceed or far exceed your peers. Lots of good people to work with. Off Fridays are nice to have. High performers are often put in a position to take on more responsibility with not much more compensation. Benefits are good. Starting pay can be good, – more... but raises are peanut buttered across departments. Recognition can be hard to get in such a big company. – less
It's a good place to saty put or come into as a special program employee
Mechanical Engineer (Current Employee), McKinney – April 30, 2012
Pros: great for diversity, medium paced work environment, decent work hours.
Cons: tough to get a decent raise, not a happy culture, too many layers of management
If you want to just come into work and do a job while getting a slightly better than low-average salary this is a great place. There is nothing wrong with that either, many people want to just enjoy their work and receive fair compensation.
However if you want to go above and beyond here, I suggest coming into one of the Rotational Leadership Development – more... Programs. If you come in as a standard employee and perform very well, it will still be very difficuly to move up and receive decent salary increases. – less
Maintenance Technician FLIR (Former Employee), Fort Hood, TX – April 27, 2012

Test Engineer (Current Employee), Aurora, CO – April 26, 2012
The department I am in has a schedule for tasks that are impossible to meet unless you work overtime. I've worked for Lockheed and IBM and I have never seen such short deadlines to meet.
