A Good place to work if you play the game.
Front Desk Agent (Former Employee), sacramento –
Pros: great place to move up in your career
Cons: to many management changes will hurt these hotels
I'm very thankful to have worked at Marriott hotel they have show me how to be a better and stronger people with customer service skills. But when you have to many management changes it hurts the button line in terms of customer care.

I loved the company and the environment.
Front Desk (Former Employee), Lubbock, TX –
Pros: great discounts
Cons: not enough work to keep me busy.
I worked the noon till 9 shift most days and although I felt there was not enough to keep the staff busy, I still enjoyed working with our guest to give them the best possible stay while being away from the comforts of their own homes.

My co-workers were enjoyable to be around and we all worked as a team to assure our guests needs and desires were – more...  met efficiently and quickly.

This position was not difficult or challenging at all. – less

Great Company To Work For.
Guest Service Representative (Former Employee), Plymouth Meeting, PA –
It was great to get familiar with the guest and make their stay with us as comfortable as possible. I really learned how to interact with people better, confidence with a public setting, enhanced my people skills. I had the best co-workers, we always came together as a team which made a busy setting much more easier to get through. The hardest part – more...  of it all was the few times I may have been on vacation or off from work and was not there to check in my favorite guest! I loved the perks that Marriott had to offer, I definitely traveled more using the discount provided. 2 Thumbs Up!! – less

Bustling place to work with many different personalities/ stories
Guest Services Representative (Former Employee), Chicago, IL –
While I was not there long I can definitely say that working for Marriott was a huge honor. It definitely taught me what it was like to work in the hospitality industry and how to communicate with a variety of types of people and just how to make them happy and provide the best customer service possible.

Management of the Office/Accounting Department continously encourages & offers a volume of new information on a daily basis. – more...  Time management, proficiency in every aspect and continous organization of all tasks can be a challenge in this fast-paced industry. Hospitality Life Style
Banquet Event Operations Supervisor (Former Employee), Memphis, TN –
Pros: career advancement
Cons: requires many hours of dedication
A typical day at work would be managing event operation that would consist of the timely execution of food functions and meeting space function as well as managing staff. I learned that the hospitality environment is a diverse and challenging but rewarding environment in work in. There was quite a bit of turnover in my department as it results to keeping – more...  a knowledgeably manager who could deal with the intense banquet operations. My co-workers consist of a very diverse group of individuals from many different socioeconomic backgrounds. The hardest part of the job was managing and deligation of large food functions as this requires you to think on your feet while managing high volume of staff and effectively communicating with customers. The most enjoyable part of the job is meeting people from all over the world and creating new professional relationships – less

Excellent company to work with.
General Manager (Former Employee), Williamsburg, Va. last Hotel. –
Only reason I left was due to being recruited to a hotel that would keep me in one place for awhile. Marriott kept sending me to 'problem' hotels to clean up. All hotels I took over went into
Platnum and Gold status.

My stay with the Marriott was a short one, but it was not an issue with the Marriott. Professionalism and teamwork are the two best words to describe the work environment.

Great benefits but personal life is sacrificed
Customer Service Agent - Front Desk/Concierge (Former Employee), Arlington, VA –
Pros: benefits and guest interaction
Cons: a little mismanaged
Very hectic work environment at times. A lot of very unique situations to allow for creative solutions. Early starts or late nights depending on the shift you have (which tends to fluctuate weekly depending on hotel's need). You will have to sacrifice a lot of plans, since you will only know your schedule for the week ahead. Get used to going from an – more...  evening shift to a morning shift with little sleep between.

Yet, you get to meet a wide selection of people and learn about the areas they come from and what they are intending. You can make a good many friends from returning guests.

Since the hotel industry is built on demand, a lot of demand is placed on the front desk. You will bear the brunt of both good and bad judgement from guests. Not everyone can be pleased and it will be hard to deny something that just isn't in your power to give. This goes for a lot of management decisions. They will make the decision and you will have to suffer the consequences, be it good or bad. – less

Good basic work qualities
Executive Chef (Former Employee), Overland Park, KS. and Charlotte, NC. –
Pros: good money, nice people
Cons: benifits costly but did get better.
I worked with Marriott when they owned all of their hotels and at that time the work place was much different, I had worked (with other companies) for managers that practiced employee harasment on a daily basis.
Marriott gave me a stable work place and a very good education in the field I was working.

Night Auditor allowed me to grow as an individual.
Night Auditor (Former Employee), San Antonio, TX –
Pros: balcones heights police dept
A typical night would start with me locking the doors to secure the hotel so my guests could sleep safely and then after clocking in, I would see if there was any information that needed to be passed on and I would begin collecting the paperwork from the day, sorting it in the proper piles to be placed in its proper files at the end of Audit. I mainly – more...  was my own boss, making quick decisions in the middle of the night if needed and that for me was the hardest part because you have to make a split decision sometimes and hope that it was in the best interest of the guest first then the hotel. I loved the Mgmt staff because I knew that no matter what decision I made, that as long as I kept my guests safe & happy, the mgmt was behind me 100% and I had more confidence in myself. The best part of my job was knowing that everything I did at night was appreciated by not only Mgmt but the rest of the staff. To be randomly told Thank you for helping with laundry or leaving notes about inquiries from guests, I knew that I was valued as an employee and a person. – less

This location will be shut down by next year , I guarantee it
Confrence Services (Current Employee), Queenstown, MD –
Pros: none at this time
Cons: everything
Marriott should be totaly ashamed and embarrased to be associated with this branch. I use to love coming to work everyday and they switched managment and the place is being run to the ground. Teh co-wprkers minus a few are out for themselvesand what they can get , thereis no team work at all, it is all about who can get who in trouble and get further – more...  in theri career. We have kids running this center who do not provide the quality of food that we were use to serving and the evaluations should show you that . All I wanted a year ago was to get back working there and now all I want is out , we barely have enough staff now. I am considered part timeand I am off all week but get 16 hours on a Friday and 10 hours the very next day , does that make sense. – less
