Food & Beverage assistant (Former Employee), Newcastle Upon Tyne –
Pros: good pay, meet new people, interesting work
Cons: poor staff communication
A typical day at work began around 7am when i would arrive and would be put on a task without much description into what i should be doing however i tried my best to find out as much as possible. I learnt to work independently very well and how to work in a team in the best possible way. My co workers were very friendly and worked very well. The hardest – more...  part of my job was working under pressure at times as managers would get very stressed out due to absences in the team, these days were particularly demanding. I most enjoyed working with my team mates who i found out a lot about, i prefer to work in a large group rather than on my own and this was the perfect environment for a large team. – less

In House Division Sales Manager (Current Employee), Orlando, FL –
Pros: seeing sales reps and managers exceed their goals.
Cons: lack of personal challenge, and lack of advancement potential
A typical day required the art of juggling many different aspects. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow all required constant review. I have Over 100 sales representatives and 300 costumers a day, each with their own challenges. The number one thing I have to do is, keep all departments working in harmony, to met the daily revenue goals. Maintain up to the – more...  minute sales and marketing reports. – less

FOOD SERVER - BARTENDER (Former Employee), Orange, CA –
Pros: employee rates at hilon hotels
Cons: my hilton was a franchise, so had new owners every few years not stable there
I was the bartender, took care of the guest there, served drinks and full menu in there. All my Co-workers were great to work with, very good team work there. Had new management there, seems they didn't know what there were doing. Hardest part was trying to get all the liquor i needed for the bar, very low inventory took forever to get stuff in and – more...  stocked. Had alot of great regulars there, got to meet alot of people form all over the world.and made alot of good friends there. – less

Vacation specialist (Former Employee), Orlando, FL –
I worked six hr days making phone calls to sell vacation packages. I learned how to be a better sales person. I loved my boss, he knew how to lead withouht micro-managing. My co-workers were fun to work with. It was hard to keep a positive attitude when you're not doing well in sales. It was a fun environment with music, laughter, and cheers when you – more...  did well! – less

Housekeeping (Former Employee), Philadelphia, PA –
Pros: it was close to my ome
Cons: there were none!
A typical work day is almost like any other work day there to get the job done. I learned how the laundry system worked. Co-workers just like any other co-worker. The hardest part? there were none. I enjoyed being employed.

Great work ethic with ocassional incentives
PBX Operator (Former Employee), Rockville, MD –
Pros: care rally, free lunches, breakfast depending on shift, pto (paid vacation)
Cons: flexibility with school, no weekends off
-Check CARE log( log with noted requests from guests)
-Check all wake-up calls
-Gather daily call around list(check other local hotel guest rate)
Pick up new wake up call sheet

-I had to learn patience and strengthen my listening skills
-Occasionally incorporated problem solving skills or new inventive ideas( for group certain group projects, or reevaluation – more...  meetings)

-Management was very effictive and consistent
-Rules were constantly enforced (tardiness was not tolerated (min. of 2 excused tardiness)
-HR was very well coordinated making sure all employees were taken care of (ex. benefits, problem solving)
-Management was also concerned with each employees well being, meetings were constructed twice a month

-The hardest part of the job was probably my willingness to fully commit even if that meant putting in extra hours, or covering for co- workers

-The most enjoyable part go the job was my bonding experience with the guest/employees. I enjoyed the easy and comfortable interaction the had day to day. There were very few negative interruptions between co-workers or guests. – less

Cook/Server (Former Employee), Kimberly, WI –
Working at the hotel was a great experience for me, not only did I get to meet new people but I also learned a lot about the hotel industry. I started as Assistant Head Housekeeper, worked in the laundry, was learning the front desk operations and moved into the kitchen as night cook/bartender/server. A lot of responsibilities but it was worth it all.

A massive disapointment
Corporate Offices (Current Employee), Dallas, TX –
Pros: if you can stand it there is room for advancement
Cons: heavily bureaucratic work environment, incompetence is rampant and rewarded
Not that atypical of an organization of this size, the corporate offices are extremely siloed. Getting anything accomplished is a monumental task. The company is successful despite itself. Getting ahead is not about what you know, but who you know.

The recruiters are outstanding...for the company. They make you feel great over-promising what the roles – more...  entail. When you get on the job there is a high level of disappointment. This was confirmed by not only me, but several of my peer across multiple departments. – less

Pros: good breaks and good team
Cons: cost of transport to get there
I enjoyed working at the Hilton as I learnt about their values and how they work as a team. I liked the staff who worked there however, i thought there was a lack of communication between the kitchen and restaurant staff.
