Principal Pipe Designer (Former Employee), Sugar Land, TX – April 27, 2012
Pros: lead, coordinator, years of experience
Cons: no feild assignment, per diem, created neg self attitude
2006 interview before direct hire vs. my favor of contract travel and per Diem would be no issue as to the amount of projects. Transferred projects lieu of field assignment which did not mature. Waited for months as others were assigned to field and left Fluor arriving in Tulsa, OK three weeks later with Worley Parsons with per Diem contract as a direct – more... employee. Created attitude during Fluor word during 21 month office assignment. Typical day at work: Do your work no questions asked. What you learned: The process gathering field data and P&ID estimating of piping systmes and transpositions. Management: Well respected knew their positions very well. Co-workers: Young pipers some willing to accept/listen regards to more experienced/exposure of older pipers. Hardest part of the job: Not knowing the date respect to field assignment and re diem as discussed during interview from get go. Most enjoyealbe part of the job: Piping Lead and design coordinator rewarding the young pipers whom successfully put in their efforts and recalling myself how good it felt when I was their age. – less
Exhausting work place with long hours and no days off during the week.
Government Property Specialist II (Former Employee), Bagram, Afghanistan – April 24, 2012
Pros: free lunch, free billeting, healthcare, good pay, 4 vacations a year, bonuses
Cons: no days off, had to work 12 hours a day
Work days were long and exhausting. You had to work 12 hours per day with no days off. We had vacations and bonuses every 3 months. Management didnt seem to be on your side on certain situations. The co-workers are what got me through the hard times working in Afghanistan. The hardest part of the job was working in the heat with no air conditioning – more... in vehicles. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with others from around the world. – less
My job was simple. Once I got to work. I could check the schedule and perform the tasks set before me. Most things were repetitive and easy to understand, that's a typical day @ work. As for management, I strongly feel they should be reviewed on a quarterly basis to make sure they are up to date. I'm easy going and I can get along with just about any – more... one so I have no problems with my co-workers. The hardest part of the job was being away from home such a long period of time and being in a danger zone 100% of the time. The thing I loved the most was satisfying the soldier/customer. I loved to enter act with them and take care of them, to make sure they enjoyed the meal... – less
Theater Work Order and Logistics Cell Manager (Current Employee), Bagram, Afghanistan – April 11, 2012
Pros: compensation and benefits
Cons: in a war zone away from family
I have work for this company for 2 years now going into my third year. They understand the fast paced and stress environment the work place can be so they give R&R every 45 days and also pay for your plane ticket home or wny destinantion you desire to visit.
I just left Bagram Afghanistan, worked for FLUOR for 3 years...
GFE/Maintenance Was the Welding Foreman there.
The company is somewhat OK to work for.
BUTTT... I do not know where you get that you get RR every 45 days.. I was over the RR matrix at my shop and NOONE gets RR every 45 days.. IF THAT WAS THE CASE I NEVER WOULD HAVE LEFT THERE, I decided to give it up and come home with my family because I was doing every 3/4months before I seen RR.
But bud be safe there....

A typical day at work cosist of getting a turnover from the off going shift. Proceed to overlook plant operation and details on status board. Do a plant walk through checking UPS's and eyewash stations a long with anything that might be out of the ordinary. Then continuously make rounds every hour while continuously monitoring plant operations by Siemens – more... system.
