A great team environment and many opportunities to advance.
Pros: staff benefits, such as reduced interest rates, rdos, ability to take time off in lieu
Cons: long hours
Start the day with staff meetings and discussing our goals and targets for the day, how we can improve, discuss what worked and what didn't.
Set up tellers for the day and ensure everyone is aware of what the expectations for the day were.
Management could be challenging and I learnt that I had to lead the team, delegate and try and get the best out
– more... of everyone, as well as be responsible and be accountable for the branches targets set for the week.
I had to learn to deal with all my co workers as they all came from different backgrounds and had to learn to respect their beliefs and not discriminate. All had to be treated the same.
The hardest part of my job was dealing with difficult staff members and customers as I had to be fair and calm at all times.
Especially customers as banking was an area where the public were verbally expressive, and I learnt to listen carefully, be fair at all times and make decisions that could either upset or please the customer.
I learnt not to take any negative remarks personally.
The most enjoyable part of the job was pleasing customers and achieving our targets as I felt that hard work paid off. – less
