BAE Systems has been my prior workplace assignment upon transitioning from a Naval career, has always provided great growth opportunities, with a strong ethical workplace flavor. I previously worked in the BAE Systems maritime industry but departed for personal reasons, am now looking to return to BAE Systems in the C4I arena if the opportunity exists.

Performed refurbish, overhaul, and modification of the Navy Mk-45, Mk-110, Mk-38 weapons systems. Workday consisted of 12 hour days 6 days a week. The management was always helpful and adopted a worker-first attitude.

I enjoy the work that I do and to have great co workers is a plus.

Okay place to work. People are good and performance driven. Gives ability to utilize multiple areas of technical background.

Needs more emphasis on design fundamentals and project/program management. Needs work on supply chain integration. A little too much emphasis on systems/project metrics.

Interact with up to 12 managers, directors and Vp of a busy Asset management department, keep up with travel and expenses, correspondence and calendars of all staff. There were representatives from all over the world, all busy and on the go.

Attended a three month training course which consisted of orientations to military deployment environments, in-depth country briefings, and multi-disciplinary social science concepts and methods. While attending the training course, was asked by the U.S. Military to remain at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to support the Team Training efforts at the Feedback – more...  Center. Unfortunately, the position is moving to Shared Services in South Carolina. I have been working there for almost a year and really enjoy the fast pace of it! I have been able to put my problem solving skills to the test with taking on a new shipyard in January. While being there I have excelled enough in my position to become the lead in my shipyard. – more...  I love the high volume of invoices inputed and staying busy obtaining proper approvals and funding for the PO's. – less

Overall, BAE is an ok place to work. Just like any job or any company, BAE has it's good aspects, and bad aspects. I started at BAE with no shipyard welding experience and they took the time to work with me and bring me up to speed.

A typical day at work could either start out slow or I could walk into a busy morning. Working for BAE Systems, I have learned so much. First of all working in my position allowed me to acquire a Federal Secret Clearance. This alone requires training and a lot of responsibility. I received a lot of training that was job specific, and hands on experience. – more...  I would have to say the hardest part of my job was the medical emergencies. You never know when they would accure and when they did you had to drop everything to respond. The most enjoyable part of my job, were the people I worked with. Not just my fellow co workers but the contractors as well. I left with life long friends. – less

Was a useful insight into the working world, involved undertaking tasks as part of an existing team for the period of time I was with them.

It wouldn't matter anyway, sorry. I was told that I was laid off because of a RIF. The nature of my job and my low salary does not warrant a layoff. My job was essential because I controlled the access of visitors, vendors, etc into the building.

Industry is constantly changing. Need to be able to adapt. Co-workers are the best part of the company. We generally all get along and are willing to help each other out.

A typical day at work consisted of a platform presentation followed by hands on training, and common core classes. As an instructor I learned how to teach a large amount of personnel without being nervous, and learning all information on various types of MRAPS made me very proficient in being an instructor. Come in at 5 am did my job with little to no supervision. I learned and got certified in numerous tasks.I had a great supervisor.But not saying much for upper management.I am friends now with most of my co-workers.Long hours 12 to 14 a day.I got to work with no supervision which made my job easier than harder.

I learned many things while I worked at BAE. I learned many machines and how they worked. I was a machine operator while I worked there. We sewed many types of fabric. The jobs that I done were not hard. Some of them were stressful but I got the job done. I had many friends while I worked there. Some of the people in management were very friendly and – more...  some of them wasn't so friendly. I was there over 5 years with no job security. They had 5 lay offs. When I first went to work there, over 600 people worked there. On the last, there was just 53 people working. I was one of the 53 that got laid off. It was a good place to work when we could get orders. We made military vests. I think the overall rating would have to be a 3. – less

BAE is an outstanding with super benefits. Would be comparable as having a Civilian career with many perks and integral work practice and opportunities.

A typical day was somewhat structured depending on the specific project I was involved with. Some days it was a lot of repetitious work testing Electronics components and equipment. Other days required some troubleshooting of failures and having the opportunity to fix them.

BAE are great for employing local people when they can. Enjoyed working but a shame it had to end due to contract finishing as made good friends and contacts in the job.
